ACLCA South Australia EPC Abstract Forum

Environmental Scientist, Natalie Newman, presented her abstract on “Sustainable Bioremediation in Remote South Australia” at ACLCA SA on Wednesday 22 May 2024.

The abstract focussed on how EHS Support managed a diesel spill caused by a truck rollover in remote SA. Around 400 m² of land was impacted by the spill, including an ephemeral creek that was found to be culturally sensitive to the Yankunytjatjara people. In response, EHS Support engaged with the Traditional Owners of the Yankunytjatjara Native Title Aboriginal Corporation and the SA EPA to develop a remediation plan acceptable to all stakeholders.

This project demonstrates the importance and value of early engagement with Traditional Owners; as their knowledge contributed to the decision-making process, and resulted in better outcomes for all stakeholders, cultural heritage, and the environment.
