Darryn has directed large‑scale environmental investigations, overseen strategic contamination assessments for operational and legacy sites, and provided technical leadership on projects involving risk prioritisation, due diligence, and regulatory engagement. What do you find most rewarding about the work that you do?
Every day, I apply scientific principles to solve complex environmental challenges. What I find most rewarding is helping clients navigate their most difficult problems with practical, innovative solutions. I also genuinely enjoy seeing emerging professionals grow—especially when we are working through data together and that “Eureka” moment hits. It is a highly rewarding career, and no two days are ever the same.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on a major refinery decommissioning program and two expert witness support projects involving PFAS impacts. Before this, I worked with a Tier 1 mining client to develop a risk and prioritisation framework that strengthened governance across its contaminated sites assessment program.

I have well rounded knowledge of contaminated sites projects in a variety of scenarios. My experience -ranging from asset transition to legal liability exposure – allows me to deeply understand the unique challenges our clients face. By combining this empathetic client centred approach with my strategic mindset, I offer innovative solutions to complex problems that are grounded in defensible scientific evidence.
What advice do you have for recent graduates?
Always ask why. Embrace opportunities that feel uncomfortable, as they often offer the greatest potential for growth. Finally, approach each challenge with curiosity. Even when a problem seems familiar, your creativity and experience are what will make your solution stand out.
