PFAS ARE INCLUDED IN UCMR 5: Will Your Business Be Impacted?

The fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 5) was published by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) December 27, 2021. The Rule requires public drinking water systems to test for all 29 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) for which analytical methods exist, where those systems supply 3,300 or more customers; systems serving less than 3,300 customers will be sampled as EPA funding is available. Under the rule, the sampling period for some public drinking water suppliers extends from January 2023 to December 2025. While initial requirements will be felt by this sector, there will be a wide range of industry and businesses directly and indirectly impacted by the results of the data assessment.
