Our confidential client for this project is one of the largest American-owned companies in the spirits and wine business, and among the top 10 global spirits companies. The company manufactures more than 25 popular brands of spirits and wines.
The company engaged EHS Support to provide guidance for their corporate environmental team and United States facility managers to manage the company’s petroleum aboveground storage tanks (ASTs). The goal was to ensure the ASTs were properly registered, inspected, and tested in accordance with federal and state regulations. EHS Support developed a comprehensive AST Management Guide for use by all United States facilities, including distilleries, cooperages, stave mills, and wineries.
To address tank integrity testing requirements of the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan regulations, EHS Support:
- Added a complete regulatory background on the requirements to inspect and test ASTs containing oil in accordance with industry standards.
- Provided detailed procedures for conducting the inspections.
- Created a narrative model template for insertion in SPCC Plans.
- Outlined state-specific requirements for registering ASTs.
Along with addressing current regulatory compliance needs, our client can rely on the AST Management Guide in the future to ensure consistency for managing tanks at facilities in the United States, as well as complying with all federal and state regulations.
