EHS Support was retained to assist a leading vertically integrated cannabis company with developing a comprehensive environmental, health, and safety compliance strategy and program. The initial engagement was based on compliance challenges with the company’s air and stormwater permitting, prompted by the installation of diesel-fueled generators. EHS Support provided rapid response, insight, and expertise to bring the company into compliance, avoiding fines and the interruption of operations.
EHS Support was then asked to complete a comprehensive audit of the operations conducted at the company’s grower/processor and dispensaries facilities. From this audit, we employed our proprietary, cannabis-focused gap analysis and Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) plan. This involved creating a compliance calendar specific to the production and dispensary operations, considering (among others):
- Use of regulated substances
- Waste management
- Chemical storage
- Local, state, and federal reporting requirements
- Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) reporting
We then collaborated with company leadership to develop a management strategy, including:
- Roles and Responsibilities
- Information Management
- Use of outside experts, as needed
It’s all a part of EHS Support’s goal to help the company meet all compliance deliverables—ahead of time.
In addition, the company’s Health and Safety program was examined, and a prioritization schedule was developed, to mitigate compliance gaps in written safety programs and procedures, maximize participation by employees, and assure the understanding and competency to create a safe working environment.
